Escaping the stresses and strains of a 21st century lifestyle is a challenge for all of us. Just coping with life’s daily demands and expectations takes its toll, and even the most experienced and seasoned professionals need to recharge their body’s batteries.
Nobody knows this better than former garda Patrick Mulcahy, or ‘The Mindful Farmer’ as he’s affectionately known. From a young lad of 8 growing up on a farm in West Limerick, Pat unknowingly practiced meditation and mindfulness techniques, and continued to use and develop them throughout his varied career to present day to manage the stresses of running multiple businesses, including Ballinwillin House Farm, the only combined organic farmed venison, wild boar and goat farm in Ireland and the UK.
In 2017 Pat created a “Thinking Path” on the grounds of his idyllic and extraordinary Ballinwillin House Farm in Co. Cork. Set in 80 acres of rich pastureland in the heart of the south of Ireland's most fertile region, the ‘Golden Vale’, Ballinwillin House Farm will once again be the venue for an exclusive, stress relieving and potentially life-changing residential experience.
For 2 memorable days and 2 magical nights, guests will experience the unique peace and tranquility of Ballinwillin House Farm, with recuperative surroundings and boutique accommodation, dining by award-winning chef, Dermot Gannon from the Old Convent, wines from Ballinwillin’s sister vineyard in Hungary, inspirational workshops and of course, the company of the Mindful Farmer himself, Pat Mulcahy. (Not forgetting his wife Miriam as well!)
Pat will share how he incorporates mindfulness and meditation into his daily routine and explain the techniques he employs to cope with the everyday stresses of a busy life. Pat said, “The objective of the Ballinwillin RetrEAT is to nourish the body and mind and provide guests with a restorative experience as well as practical techniques that can be taken away and used daily. The feedback from 2018 was overwhelmingly positive with one guest reporting we had ‘worked magic’ on their type A personality and another highlighting how ‘the mind goes quiet even despite itself.’ The start of a new year is an ideal time to host the RetrEAT again when many of us are lining up ambitious goals and challenges and we look forward to welcoming familiar and new faces at the end of the month.”
Pat will be joined by Reiki Master and qualified Stott pilates teacher, Mary Thérèse O Connell. Originally from a Co Limerick dairy farm, Mary Thérèse now resides in the English countryside where her private practice serves a diverse portfolio of clients from farmers to actors.
The Ballinwillin House Farm Meditation & Mindfulness RetrEAT takes place from Friday 25 January – Sunday 27January and 29 – 31 March and is priced at 895 Euro per person.
Menus are set and feature in season locally sourced ingredients including organic farmed venison and wild boar from Ballinwillin House Farm and wines from our sister vineyard in Hungary.
